There is always something special about coworkers celebrating one another—and this moment was worth celebrating.
Team member Taylee stopped by to congratulate Afton Harper on passing her ADA Coordinator Certification exam through the Great Plains ADA Center. The accomplishment reflects Afton’s hard work, knowledge and commitment to making communities more accessible and inclusive for people with disabilities.
With Afton’s certification, empower: abilities now has two certified ADA Coordinators on staff. This additional expertise strengthens the organization’s ability to help businesses, nonprofits and community organizations better understand accessibility, identify and remove barriers, and create spaces and experiences where everyone has the opportunity to participate.
The celebration also offered a reminder of the value of workplace encouragement. A hug—when welcomed—a high five or a simple “I’m proud of you” lets people know their hard work is noticed and appreciated.
And, of course, Afton’s service dog, Payton, stood patiently in front of the celebration. As a working service dog, he understands that there is a time for work and a time for hugs. Don’t worry, Payton—your turn for appreciation will come when you’re off duty!
Congratulations to Afton on this well-earned achievement—and here’s to coworkers who cheer one another on along the way.
