empowered2work Program Success Story!

June 5, 2023

Justarius S., who goes by Jay (she/her), has been working at Chuck E. Cheese since January of 2023 as a game room attendant. Jay received assistance from empower: abilities’ “Empowered2Work” program to secure employment, which is headed by April Parker.

In her role as a game room attendant, Jay helps to keep tables and games clean for families’ use, keeping an eye on kids to ensure they leave with the correct adult, as well as even dressing up as “Chuck E.” on occasion. Jay states that wearing the “Chuck E.” costume is not her favorite, but that it’s hard not to give a good performance once the costume is on. Jay’s manager says, “Jay gets along well with everyone--she is very enthusiastic and is always ready to go with a good attitude. She has received compliments from one of the toughest managers for her attention to detail while cleaning the game room, and she’s always willing to learn new things and has impeccable attendance. Jay was awarded employee of the month with a unanimous vote by all managers for positive attitude and energy.”

Like any job, it can get overwhelming on the busy days, but Jay says that she has fun, enjoys getting free pizza and soda on occasion, and enjoys getting to play the games during down time. “Working with empower: abilities worked better than looking for employment by myself,” Jay says, “Empower: abilities helped find a better-fitting job for my personality. I have no complaints; I would recommend my best friend to utilize empower: abilities’ services. Overall, the staff is genuinely nice.” Thanks Jay!
