Another White Cane Day Safety Awareness event is in the books! Over 25 individuals joined empower: abilities for a day of advocacy, education, and a leisurely stroll down Battlefield Road near Kansas Expressway - a busy intersection routinely crossed by pedestrians. Attendees learned about pedestrian safety, the history of White Cane advocacy efforts, and participated in a special Proclamation recognizing this important day.
A heartfelt thank you to our partners — The National Federation of the Blind and SGF Yields — for helping make this event a success, as well as the City of Springfield for their sponsorship.
Guest speakers included Zone 3 City Council Member Brandon Jenson, District 133 State Representative Melanie Stinnett, Mandy Buettgen with SGF Yields, and local law enforcement officers who ensured everyone’s safety along the route.
“White Cane Day is a special day — it represents independence for people with low vision, and brings awareness for the safety of all,” one participant shared.
